Mark and Claire’s wedding at Thainstone House was beautiful, elegant and full of timeless details.
Thainstone is one of those Aberdeenshire venues that really suits a classic wedding day. The house has so much character, with grand rooms, soft window light, traditional interiors and lovely gardens surrounding the building. It gives a wedding gallery that mixture of warmth, history and romance without needing to over-style anything.
The morning began with bridal prep at Thainstone House, which gave us time to photograph the details before the ceremony. Claire’s dress looked beautiful hanging by the window, with the lace detail catching the light, and her bridal portraits had such a soft, classic feel. These quieter moments before the ceremony always add so much to the story of the day.
For this wedding, Rhian Wood from Babes in the Wood Media worked alongside me. It was our first wedding together, and it was lovely having that extra perspective throughout the day. Working together meant we could capture more of the natural moments, the ceremony, guest reactions and all the little details happening around the venue.
The ceremony was held inside Thainstone House, surrounded by family and friends. It had a warm, emotional atmosphere, with beautiful natural reactions between Mark and Claire as they exchanged their vows. Their walk back down the aisle afterwards was one of those lovely just-married moments, relaxed, happy and full of applause.
After the ceremony, we headed outside for the confetti shot and the large group photograph. Thainstone works really well for this because there is enough space around the front of the building for guests to gather, and the venue itself gives a strong backdrop without distracting from the couple. The confetti photograph had that joyful, celebratory feel that always marks the start of the next part of the day.
We also made time for couple portraits around the grounds. The gardens, stonework and greenery at Thainstone gave the photographs a really elegant feel, especially with Claire’s veil and the soft movement in her dress. Mark looked brilliant in his kilt, and together their portraits had that classic Scottish country house wedding look.
One of the things I loved about this gallery was the balance between timeless portraits and natural moments. There were beautiful, polished photographs, but also laughter, movement, and little pockets of personality throughout the day. The groomsmen brought a bit of fun to the portraits too, which helped keep the gallery relaxed and full of life.
Mark and Claire’s Thainstone House wedding was elegant, romantic and full of classic Aberdeenshire charm. It was the kind of day that suited the venue perfectly, beautiful surroundings, emotional moments, a brilliant confetti shot and photographs that will still feel timeless years from now.
