Becca and Ryan’s wedding at Forgan’s Broughty Ferry was one of those brilliant, full-of-life days where everything just worked.

It had the best kind of relaxed energy: a little bit ad hoc, completely personal, full of laughter, and with a proper party atmosphere from start to finish.

The morning started with Becca getting ready at home with her bridesmaids. There were beautiful details to photograph: the shoes, flowers, jewellery, soft green bridesmaid dresses, and that lovely calm-before-the-day feeling. Becca looked incredible in her dress, and the morning had a really warm, family-centred feel.

Ryan’s morning had a different energy entirely. I met him and the groomsmen at a local pub before they headed to the venue. The groomsmen photos had a proper Dundee feel to them, kilts, laughter, a bus stop line-up, and then everyone jumping on the bus to Forgan’s. It was relaxed, funny and very them.

Forgan’s Broughty Ferry was such a good fit for this wedding. It has that cosy, characterful atmosphere that works so well for documentary wedding photography. The ceremony space felt intimate without being too formal, and the personalised board inside the venue made the whole thing feel instantly theirs.

After the ceremony, we headed out around Broughty Ferry for portraits. This is one of the reasons Forgan’s works so well as a Dundee wedding venue, you have the warmth and character of the venue itself, but then you can step outside and get coastal portraits, street portraits, and those little storytelling moments that make the gallery feel more varied.

One of my favourite parts of the day was photographing Becca and Ryan placing their padlock on the railing. It was such a simple moment, but a meaningful one. Those small gestures are often the photographs that matter more over time, the ones that are not just about how the day looked, but what it meant.

We also made time for couple portraits around the venue and nearby streets, including some beautiful shots by the grey gates and along the waterfront. Becca’s dress photographed beautifully, especially with the soft layers and detail, and Ryan’s kilt worked perfectly against the textures of Broughty Ferry.

Then came the speeches, and they were brilliant. The best man’s speech got some absolutely priceless reactions, including Dad looking just the right amount of shocked. These are the moments I love catching: the expressions people do not know they are making, the laughter around the tables, the little looks between guests, and all the chaos that makes a wedding feel real.

By the evening, the whole day had turned into a proper party. Forgan’s is made for that kind of celebration: warm lighting, close tables, laughter bouncing around the room, and everyone fully in the moment. It was wild in the best possible way.

Becca and Ryan’s wedding was relaxed, emotional, funny and full of character. It was not about perfection. It was about people. And that is why it photographed so well.
