Mr and Mrs Procter were married at Elsick House in April, with a beautiful outdoor ceremony held on the lawn. It was the kind of day that felt effortlessly romantic from start to finish — traditional in all the right ways, but also full of artistic detail, floral softness, antique character, and the kind of picturesque setting that makes every part of the gallery feel rich and timeless.

Elsick House is such a striking venue for a wedding. Set near Aberdeen, it is an exclusive use house and grounds venue, which gives couples that lovely sense of privacy and calm throughout the day. The venue describes itself as a historic house with beautifully refurbished interiors, and that balance of heritage and comfort really comes through when you photograph there. It feels elegant without losing warmth, and grand without feeling overwhelming.

What made this wedding feel especially beautiful was how well the venue suited the styling and atmosphere of the day. Elsick House has that rare quality of feeling traditional, artistic, eclectic, floral, and antique all at once. There is so much character in the interiors — from the period feel of the house itself to the way the rooms hold light, texture, and detail. It is the kind of venue where the setting adds to the story at every turn, rather than simply acting as a backdrop.

The lawn ceremony in April was especially lovely. Outdoor ceremonies at Elsick House are one of the things that make it so memorable, and the venue specifically highlights outdoor wedding options within its grounds. For the Procters, being married outside gave the day such a romantic, open feel, with the house and gardens creating a naturally beautiful frame around them.

From a photography point of view, Elsick House gives you so much to work with. The house is designed for both intimate celebrations in the reception rooms and larger weddings in the marquee within the south facing walled garden, with on site accommodation for up to 20 guests. That means the whole day can unfold in one place, which always helps the atmosphere feel relaxed and connected.

It is also a venue with no shortage of beautiful portrait locations. In its wedding brochure, Elsick House highlights the main lawn, walled garden, bridge over the pond, rustic surrounding wall, ancient trees, and lake as photographic backdrops. That mix gives couples so much variety in a gallery, from more formal and elegant portraits to softer garden images and wider scenic frames that really show off the grounds.

Inside, the rooms are just as picturesque. Elsick House offers elegant reception spaces for smaller celebrations and beautifully updated interiors throughout the house, so even if you stay indoors for part of the day there is still so much visual character. For a wedding like this one, where the styling leaned into florals, tradition, and timeless romance, those interiors worked beautifully.

What I loved about Mr and Mrs Procter’s day was how naturally everything came together. The April light, the lawn ceremony, the floral details, and the antique feel of the house all created a wedding that felt deeply personal and visually stunning. It had that soft, romantic atmosphere that suits Elsick House so well, while still feeling full of life and individuality.

Elsick House really is one of those venues that photographs beautifully in every direction. It has privacy, atmosphere, and an incredible range of settings for portraits, all wrapped up in a house that feels full of history and beauty. For couples who want a wedding that feels both elegant and personal, it is a truly special place to celebrate.
