Gill and Ross celebrated their wedding with a relaxed reception at Lochter Activity Centre, following their wedding ceremony the previous day.
Rather than trying to fit everything into one busy wedding day, their reception gave them another opportunity to spend time with their family and friends, enjoy the celebrations and create some beautiful photographs together. I joined them for two hours of coverage, capturing the atmosphere of the reception alongside a short portrait session around the grounds.

Wedding photography at Lochter Activity Centre
I have photographed several weddings at Lochter Activity Centre, and it is always a lovely venue to return to. The grounds offer plenty of variety without couples having to disappear from their guests for long.
The loch itself creates a beautiful backdrop, particularly with the surrounding trees, reeds and open countryside. Even on a soft, misty day, the landscape feels peaceful and romantic. The swans on the water also made a perfectly timed appearance during Gill and Ross’s photographs.
We kept their portrait session relaxed and natural. There was no need for complicated posing or a long list of staged photographs. Instead, Gill and Ross walked together beside the loch, chatted, laughed and enjoyed a little quiet time away from the reception.
These are often some of my favourite moments to photograph. A couple does not need to feel completely comfortable in front of the camera or know how to pose. Giving them something simple to do, such as walking together or looking at one another, allows their genuine connection to come through.
A relaxed two-hour wedding reception
Two-hour wedding coverage can work beautifully for a smaller reception or celebration held separately from the main wedding day.
Although the time is shorter, it can still provide a meaningful collection of photographs. During Gill and Ross’s reception, I was able to capture natural moments with their guests, details from the celebration and a complete set of photographs of the two of them around the venue.
Gill looked wonderful in her detailed lace wedding dress, while Ross wore a dark jacket and tartan kilt. Against the muted greens and soft grey skies around Lochter, their outfits stood out beautifully.
One of my favourite photographs is a close-up of Gill holding her bouquet behind her. It highlights the detail of her dress and flowers while still including the landscape around her. I also love the black-and-white photograph of Gill and Ross sharing a kiss beside the water, with the swans swimming behind them.
Your wedding celebration does not have to follow a set format
Gill and Ross’s reception is a lovely example of how personal a wedding celebration can be. The ceremony and reception do not necessarily have to take place on the same day, and photography coverage does not always need to begin with morning preparations and continue late into the evening.

Some couples want their entire story documented. Others would prefer a photographer for a smaller part of the celebration. What matters is choosing coverage that reflects the wedding you are actually planning.
A shorter booking can be ideal for an intimate reception, an evening celebration, a post-wedding gathering or couples who mainly want natural photographs with their closest family and friends.
Congratulations again to Gill and Ross Ellis. It was a pleasure to join you at Lochter Activity Centre and capture this part of your wedding celebrations.
