A Stylish Reception at The Mansefield Hotel, Elgin

Some wedding days have a lovely sense of movement to them, and this one really did. The day began with a church ceremony, full of emotion and tradition, before everyone headed to The Mansefield Hotel in Elgin for the reception. It felt like such a beautiful balance of classic and relaxed, a meaningful ceremony followed by a stylish celebration in a venue that worked brilliantly for the rest of the day.

The Mansefield is one of Elgin’s best known wedding venues, and it is easy to see why. The hotel describes itself as a four star venue and offers purpose built wedding spaces including the Pavilion and the Moray Suite, along with on site accommodation for guests. Its wedding spaces are designed to host everything from intimate celebrations to much larger receptions, with dining for up to around 200 guests and even bigger evening celebrations.

For this wedding, the reception space felt especially lovely. The meal room was wonderfully light and airy, which always makes such a difference to the overall feel of a wedding breakfast and to the photographs too. It gave the whole room a soft, welcoming atmosphere and worked beautifully for speeches, details, and those in between moments as everyone settled into the celebration. As a photographer, it is the kind of space that gives you a lot to work with. There were a few mirrors to keep an eye on, as there often are in elegant venues, but the light, space, and clean overall feel more than made up for that.

One of my favourite parts of the day was the bridal prep room. It had so much room to breathe, which made the morning feel calm rather than crowded, and that always helps set the tone for the rest of the day. There was also a piano in the room, which made such a beautiful feature to work with for portraits of the bride. It added character without overwhelming the image, and it suited the feel of the venue so well. When a prep room has both space and interesting features, it gives you the chance to create photographs that feel a little more considered and a little more personal.

That sense of elegance carried through the whole venue. The Mansefield’s wedding offering includes a dedicated bridal suite, menu and seating plan support, and a Master of Ceremonies, all designed to help the day run smoothly. The hotel also has 51 rooms, suites and apartments, so it works well for couples who want their guests close by and the celebration all in one place.

From a photography point of view, it is a venue that offers a good mix of practical and pretty. You have the more polished reception spaces, but also those smaller pockets within the building that help create variety in a gallery. The official wedding information also highlights the hotel’s landscaped gardens as a backdrop for photographs, which adds another option for couples wanting a mix of indoor and outdoor images through the day.

What I liked most about this wedding at The Mansefield was how well the venue fitted the couple. After the formality and feeling of the church ceremony, it gave everyone a setting that still felt special but also warm and easy to enjoy. The bright meal room, the generous prep space, and the thoughtful layout all helped the day flow naturally from one part to the next.

It was such a lovely venue for the Moores, and one that photographed beautifully throughout the day. Weddings like this are a reminder that it is not only about dramatic landscapes or grand outdoor settings. Sometimes it is the calm prep room, the soft light in the reception space, and the way a venue holds everyone together that shapes the story just as much.

If you are planning a wedding in Elgin and looking for a venue that combines dedicated event spaces, on site accommodation, and a bright, elegant setting for your reception, The Mansefield is well worth considering.
